Who We Are: The Collective Flushing Out Domain Delusion
We Are Not a Company. We Are a Consequence.
Defequer doesn’t have a headquarters. We don’t have business cards. We don’t have quarterly earnings calls or investor presentations.
What we have is a shared disgust for the epidemic of delusion that’s infected the domain aftermarket.
We are:
- Former domain investors who learned the hard way
- Web developers tired of clients insisting on garbage domains
- SEO professionals who’ve watched businesses fail before they started
- Satire enthusiasts who recognized the comedic potential of other people’s bad decisions
- Forum refugees who got banned for “negativity” (translation: telling the truth)
We came together not through a master plan, but through shared frustration. We met in comment sections, forum threads, and private messages where we found ourselves saying the same thing: “Someone should do something about this.”
Eventually, we realized: we were someone.
Meet the Team (Such as It Is)
We remain anonymous for practical reasons. Some of us still work in the domain industry. Some have faced legal threats. Some just prefer the mystery.
But you deserve to know who’s behind the curtain.
Le Rôtisseur – The Roast Master
Background: 15 years in domain investing, including a stint at a major marketplace where he learned just how much of the industry runs on hype.
Role: Leads the research phase, finds the most absurd targets, ensures every claim is verifiable.
Signature move: Finding the one comparable sale that completely destroys the seller’s argument.
Quote: “I used to be part of the problem. Now I’m the consequence.”
Madame Guillotine – The Writer
Background: Professional copywriter and satire specialist who got tired of writing marketing copy for products she didn’t believe in.
Role: Takes the research and turns it into something people actually want to read. Crafts the punchlines, scores the Delusion Index, ensures the voice stays consistent.
Signature move: The paragraph that starts funny, gets mean, and ends with a data point that makes the seller look stupid.
Quote: “Satire is just truth with better pacing.”
The Archivist – The Digger
Background: Data analyst with a gift for finding things that were supposed to stay buried.
Role: Wayback Machine deep dives, WHOIS history reconstruction, backlink analysis. If a domain has embarrassing history, The Archivist finds it.
Signature move: Uncovering that a “premium brandable” was previously a spam site for Canadian pharmaceuticals.
Quote: “The internet forgets nothing. Neither do I.”
The Quant – The Numbers Person
Background: Former financial analyst who got into domain investing, got burned, and got angry.
Role: Comparable sales analysis, search volume verification, pricing reality checks. The Quant ensures we never make a claim we can’t back with data.
Signature move: Showing that a $100,000 domain’s keyword gets 10 searches per month – all from the seller checking their listing.
Quote: “Math doesn’t care about your feelings about your domain.”
The Troll – Community Manager
Background: Forum veteran who’s been banned from NamePros three times (all unfairly, according to them).
Role: Engages with commenters, baits defensive sellers into embarrassing themselves, monitors the submission queue.
Signature move: Responding to legal threats with “We’ll add this to the roast.”
Quote: “I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to make content.”
Our Origin Story: How We Got Here
2019: The Quant registers 50 “premium” domains based on forum advice. Sells exactly zero. Loses $500 in renewals before letting them expire.
2020: Madame Guillotine writes marketing copy for a domain “portfolio” that’s clearly worthless. Quits rather than continue the charade.
2021: Le Rôtisseur leaves his marketplace job, disillusioned by how many obviously bad domains were listed at obviously fake prices.
2022: The Archivist starts a private thread documenting the most absurd domains they’ve found. Shares it with friends.
2023: The thread grows. More people join. Someone suggests making it public.
2024: The team starts monitoring the status of the domain “Defequer.com”, which was still being owned by someone else.
2025: The domain is still unavailable.
2026: Here we go! Finally we’ve managed to get hold of this domain. Everything begins!
What We Believe
1. Domain Prices Should Reflect Reality
Not “potential.” Not “what Estibot said.” Not “what I feel it’s worth.” Reality. Based on comparable sales, search data, and actual market demand.
2. Newbies Deserve Protection, Not Predation
The domain industry is full of sharks who see fresh blood and smell profit. We’re the lifeguard with a whistle and a very loud megaphone.
3. Satire Is a Legitimate Educational Tool
People remember jokes. They remember mockery. They forget dry lectures. By making delusion funny, we make it memorable.
4. Transparency Beats Hype Every Time
The industry runs on opacity. Automated appraisals that mean nothing. Forum threads where everyone pats everyone else on the back. “Investor pricing” that has no relationship to investment reality.
We expose that opacity. We make it visible. We make it ridiculous.
5. Independence Is Non-Negotiable
We don’t take money from registrars, marketplaces, or domainers. We don’t accept sponsored posts. We don’t do “premium reviews” for a fee.
We can’t be bought. We can’t be bullied. We can only be proven wrong – and that requires evidence, not threats.
What We’ve Achieved (So Far)
Since launching, we’ve:
- Published 30+ roasts of the most absurd domains we could find
- Tracked multiple delistings within days of publication
- Saved unknown number of buyers from making expensive mistakes (based on emails we’ve received)
- Built a library of data about what “delusional pricing” actually looks like
- Developed a loyal readership of domainers, buyers, and industry professionals
- Received our first legal threat (framed it, hanging in our virtual office)
- Been called “negative” by people who confuse “accurate” with “mean”
We’re proud of all of it.
What We’re Not
We’re not “anti-domain investing.” Some of the smartest people we know are successful domainers. They price fairly, add value, and contribute to the ecosystem. We salute them.
We’re not “trolls for hire.” If you want us to roast a competitor’s domain out of spite, the answer is no. (Unless it’s also genuinely ridiculous, in which case we’d find it anyway.)
We’re not infallible. We make mistakes. When we do, we correct them. The comments section is open, and we read every response.
We’re not going away. The domain industry will always produce delusion. We’ll always be here to document it.
Join the Crusade
You don’t have to be a writer or a researcher to contribute. You just have to see something, say something.
Found a ridiculous domain? [Submit it]. We’ll verify it, roast it, and credit you.
Been burned by a bad domain purchase? [Share your story]. Anonymized, if you prefer. Your experience could save someone else.
Want to argue with our methodology? The comments are open. Bring data, not feelings.
Thinking about offering us money to take down a roast? Save your energy. We’ll just publish your email and roast you harder.
The Bottom Line
We’re not here to make friends. We’re here to make the domain market function properly – with accurate information, realistic pricing, and accountability for people who treat domain investing like a lottery ticket with a keyboard.
If that makes us villains in some domainers’ personal narratives, so be it.
Defequer.com – because someone had to flush.
Post-Roadmap: Future Team Additions
As we grow, we may add:
- The Translator – For French-language roasts (c’est nécessaire)
- The Legal Eagle – To parse UDRP threats and trademark nonsense
- The Developer – To build tools that automate parts of the hunt
- The Intern – If anyone would work for exposure and the satisfaction of mocking domainers
For now, this is us. Five people, one mission, infinite targets.
Onwards.
